The new name reflects the company’s shift from being a wholly directory-oriented organisation to a fully-fledged, solutions-based media company empowering advertisers and users to access any information they are looking for, 24/7, 365 days a year – from many different platforms.
This important milestone in the history of the company was marked with the launch of Trudon Mobile.
Lionel Smith, Trudon’s General Manager, Online and Search explains: “The new contemporary corporate image will enable us now to expand our product offering with greater ease. I am very proud to announce as our first product innovation under the new brand name, the launch of Trudon Mobile. Trudon’s aim is to make Trudon Mobile the mobile information portal of choice for all South Africans.”
A first for South Africa, Trudon Mobile will offer users the ability to conduct Yellow Pages, City Search, Wikipedia and White Pages searches as well as access fresh and reliable information on sports, weather, news and maps from their mobile phones. In addition the feature-rich service allows users to save search results to their phone’s contact list, quick click-to-calls, send search results to friends, find their locations on a map and receive directions for each result.
Trudon Mobile was developed by mobilePeople, the specialist in local mobile search solutions for the directory publisher and media industry and is based on mobilePeople’s renowned liquidTM Local+ platform. Trudon Mobile is now available in whole South Africa as downloadable Java application or browser version that allows 95% of all mobile phones in the market accessing the service.
Trudon Mobile offers anyone on the go quick and affordable access to fresh, relevant local or topical information when out and about – embedded in a fantastic and simple user experience. Because the information is delivered in simple text format, download costs are kept to the minimum, making it affordable for all South Africans.
Jens Andersen, CEO and co-founder of mobilePeople commented: “It’s very exciting to launch our local search product in South Africa, a market where new digital media are dominated by mobile. We are very much looking forward to the up-take of Trudon Mobile and to see that the mobile phone becomes the preferred search channel in South Africa.“
Trudon Mobile and the up-coming product enhancements will enable advertisers and consumers to publish and source information at the newly created digital marketplace and across many more platforms than previously available.
